Alaskans are serious about moose. We're one of the only states in the US where moose can be found -- these, one of the largest of wild animals around these parts, not to be confused with elk or the much-smaller reindeer..
So serious that on my trip to the mall today, not a single Santa-suited man could be found. But there were kiddos lined up to get their Christmas pictures, saddled right on the back of this (stuffed) sucker!
Another Alaskan Christmas twist: the Holy Moose Family. Too bad baby Jesus looks terrified and Mary Moose looks like she's wondering who this kid is anyways...
Until 5th grade I didn't realize that there was such a thing as beef, or that people bought it from the grocery store. My dad just went hunting every September, and we dug frozen moose out of our freezer all year long. I've counted 19 moose (alive & outside, not stuffed or ceramic) in my month here so far. They're kind of a big deal.
Did I mention we are serious about moose?

Moose, it's what's for dinner. And for Christmas...
