tight spaces

Tonight was a 6-people-on-the-back-of-a-tuk-tuk kind of night. Which involved Aimee sitting on the "triangle" -- the small platform section of the tuk-tuk that connects it to the back of the motocycle. It's not really a seat, but it can be used as a chair when the need arises. Because really any space can be used for anything when the need arises.

I have a deep dislike of wasted space, and space saving ingenuity is something I highly value and admire. Having a big bedroom gives me the willies, and bringing a suitcase too big for my stuff on a trip really gets under my skin. So I deeply appreciate the creative use of space -- namely cramming as much as you can in every last nook and cranny: something I get to enjoy daily here.

There are too many ways to count how this manifests itself, and I've been thus far unable to capture on film the motos carrying dozens of upside-down (live) chickens, or whole pigs strapped on the back seat, or the family of six sitting on top of each other trucking down the street, but for now this man with his vegetables will suffice...

and the van of wall-to-wall coconuts...

the couple transporting a hundred baskets on a cyclo...

and the van loads coming in from the provinces to the city...

Nothing is impossible and no space is wasted here in the Kingdom of Wonder.
