slumber parties

One thing I am coming to appreciate about my life here, is that it involves a lot of slumber parties. It has been a long time since I could say that I averaged at least 1.5 slumber parties per week. Not since college. Or since N & I shared a bedroom in Mountainview. This last week I've had three.

This is one of the many upsides of being very single, and I am counting my blessings to be surrounded by so many amazing women here. Khmer. American. Canadian. Dutch. Chinese. Korean. Australian.... Women who are living out of their hearts, their passions, from a place that is not from a sense of Plan B, of waiting around for their real life to start, but of following God forward into their 20s and 30s and heading towards 40s. I'm grateful for the example of lives lived wide open, and for the kindredness of carving out a life as one in community with others.

This weekend...
  • C had a birthday, and nine of us took a boat tour down the river at sunset--complete with chips and salsa, and apsara dance lessons.
  • Extended slumber party with P--market trip, lok lak cooking lesson, heart to heart chats, new Khmer words, a trip to the bookstore, and a Mary Kate & Ashley movie. :)
  • And today--an afternoon bike trip with a group of new gal pals to the other side of the river (via car ferry) and a picnic on the edge of a mango & papaya farm. Small snapshot of that here.

Last week...
  • Two late nights with my slumber party marathon buddy, A--who will be heading back to Texas soon and who I will dearly miss.
  • And Valentines Day movie night at our house, full of laughter, and cake. (Note: I was banned from posting as my Facebook status: "nothing says Happy V-Day like a room full of girls watching He's Just Not That Into You" ... what? it's funny!)
It is such a gift to spend time with these amazing women. Shout-out to all the single ladies here... you are truly incredible.
